Summer Camp Program Coordinator (On-site Leadership)
Position Type: Full-time Seasonal (Summer) possibility of extension

Position Description:
As a Summer Camp Program Coordinator at Discover Fun Camp, you will lead the design, coordination, and implementation of a wide variety of enrichment programs and activities that foster academic, emotional, and social growth among campers. You will oversee staff, manage program logistics, ensure a safe and inclusive environment, and contribute to the overall success of the camp through strategic planning and hands-on leadership.
You will report directly to and work in tandem with the Program Director to ensure the ongoing success, growth, and smooth operation of the camp. This role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to lead the site confidently while actively contributing as a team player within the Discover Fun Camp administrative team.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Development and Implementation:
- Design and implement a diverse range of activities and curriculum that promote academic enrichment, social-emotional learning, and skill development.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and parents to align activities with student needs and goals.
- Create and manage daily camp schedules to ensure engaging, age-appropriate experiences for all campers.
- Ensure compliance with safety and licensing regulations.
- Guide counselors and facilitators in implementing structured and creative learning activities throughout the day.
- Communicate lesson plans and activities to camp facilitators, coaches, and counselors.
Daily Operations & Planning:
- Assist the Program Director in ensuring that all planning and preparation are completed in a timely manner.
- Under the supervision of the Program Director, manage the day-to-day flow of camp including keeping the schedule on time, ensuring staff are set up for activities, and monitoring overall camper safety.
- Oversee camper check-in and check-out each day with a parent-approved adult.
- Be familiar with and enforce DFC policies, rules, and expectations using positive reinforcement techniques.
- Monitor environmental safety and report maintenance or hazard issues promptly.
Staff Support and Supervision:
- Recruit, train, and supervise instructors, volunteers, and support staff.
- Coordinate daily staff scheduling and delegate responsibilities.
- Provide mentorship and support to staff for high-quality program delivery.
- Promote collaboration and serve as a model of professionalism, respect, and flexibility.
Camper Engagement and Well-being:
- Foster a nurturing, inclusive environment for all campers.
- Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all children during activities.
- Address behavioral challenges and conflicts using appropriate interventions.
- Report any camper illness, accidents, or behavioral incidents to the Operations Director and maintain proper records
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance, evaluations, and incident reports.
- Monitor program budgets and expenses.
- Assist with fundraising initiatives and program sustainability efforts.
- Evaluate program effectiveness based on feedback and outcomes.
- Work to increase program enrollment by 15%.
- Be available for communication by phone or email.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with families regarding camper behavior, field trips, schedules, and general updates.
- Collaborate with the Program Director to ensure that all program objectives are met.
Community Building:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with campers, staff, and families.
- Promote a culture of respect, teamwork, and joy throughout camp operations.
- Organize community events or showcase activities that celebrate camper achievements and camp spirit.
Qualifications:
- Experience in program coordination, education, youth services, or related fields.
- Strong background in leadership, curriculum design, and team supervision.
- Knowledge of or experience in educational enrichment, youth development, or recreational programming.
- Strong organizational, budgeting, and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a site and work collaboratively as part of an administrative team.
- First Aid and CPR certification (preferred).
- Background check clearance.

Summer Camp Classroom Facilitator (Coach)
Position Type: Full-time Seasonal (Summer)

Position Summary:
As a Summer Camp Facilitator at Discover Fun Camp, you will be responsible for leading classroom-based activities and overseeing the daily experiences of children enrolled in the program. Acting as the lead teacher for your assigned group, you will facilitate engaging lessons aligned with the weekly camp theme, maintain a nurturing and inclusive environment, and ensure the safety and development of all campers in your care. This position reports directly to the Summer Camp Program Coordinator and the Program Director.
You will also be responsible for managing classroom materials, maintaining classroom safety and cleanliness, and supporting campers’ emotional and physical well-being throughout their time at camp.
Key Responsibilities:
Classroom Leadership & Facilitation:
- Develop, prepare, and teach lessons based on predetermined weekly camp themes.
- Submit lesson plans and material needs to the Program Director at least two weeks in advance.
- Facilitate activities such as arts and crafts, STEM projects, games, and more, demonstrating techniques and encouraging camper participation and creativity.
- Greet campers upon arrival, explain and enforce camp rules, and provide emotional support for those adjusting to camp life.
- Communicate with parents to provide updates on camper progress and behavior when needed.
Camper Safety & Engagement:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers during indoor and outdoor activities.
- Monitor and assist with snack and lunch distribution.
- Administer minor First Aid as needed and promptly report any incidents or injuries to the Program Coordinator.
- Manage camper behavior using positive reinforcement and support techniques.
Classroom Environment:
- Maintain a nurturing classroom climate that supports learning, independence, and inclusion.
- Organize the classroom space in a functional, clean, and attractive way that encourages independence.
- Display children’s work in a way that promotes self-esteem and informs families and visitors.
- Label classroom materials and areas clearly and appropriately.
- Alert the Program Director of any concerns related to cleanliness, repairs, or safety.
Health, Safety, & Nutrition:
- Enforce all safety policies and camp protocols.
- Intervene appropriately to prevent injury and manage conflicts.
- Practice infection control through proper hand-washing and cleaning procedures.
Communication & Administrative Duties:
- Check internal emails weekly to stay updated on camp-wide changes, updates, or announcements.
- Adhere to all Discover Fun Camp policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Work permits may be accepted on a case-by-case basis.
- Experience working with children in a classroom or camp setting is strongly preferred.
- Ability to plan and implement age-appropriate activities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with MS Word, Excel, and downloading images.
- CPR and First Aid certification (preferred).
- Background check clearance.

Summer Camp Outdoor Facilitator
Position Type: Full-time Seasonal (Summer)

Position Summary:
As a Summer Camp Outdoor Facilitator at Discover Fun Camp, you will be primarily responsible for leading outdoor playtime, enrichment, and nature-based activities for campers. Your role is vital in creating safe, engaging, and memorable outdoor experiences that promote physical activity, teamwork, and exploration. Working closely with the Camp Facilitator, Program Coordinator, and Program Director, you will ensure the well-being and supervision of all children in your care while fostering a positive and inclusive camp environment.
This position is physically demanding and takes place almost exclusively outdoors, with exceptions made during hazardous weather conditions. You are expected to arrive on time, remain alert, and be prepared to facilitate fun, active programming while maintaining a strong presence and sense of safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Outdoor Planning & Facilitation:
- Develop and implement age-appropriate outdoor programs and nature-based activities aligned with weekly camp themes.
- Adapt activities to suit weather conditions and camper needs.
- Lead outdoor group games, structured playtime, and special outdoor events.
- Create and maintain a clean, safe, and organized outdoor activity area.
- Serve as a role model by actively participating in all activities and promoting teamwork, fun, and sportsmanship.
Camper Safety & Supervision:
- Supervise and engage campers during all outdoor activities, ensuring full participation and emotional support.
- Maintain accurate headcounts before, during, and after outdoor transitions; never leave campers unattended.
- Monitor environmental conditions (heat, storms, lightning, etc.) to assess safety and adjust plans as needed.
- Administer basic First Aid when necessary and promptly report any injuries or incidents to the Program Coordinator.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work hand-in-hand with the classroom Camp Facilitator to manage camper transitions and ensure group cohesion.
- Communicate effectively with the Program Coordinator and Program Director to report daily updates and concerns.
- Attend all staff meetings and contribute to a collaborative and supportive team environment.
Equipment & Safety Checks:
- Conduct and document daily safety inspections of outdoor play equipment and activity areas.
- Report damaged or unsafe materials immediately to the Program Director.
Administrative & Additional Duties:
- Maintain records of attendance, camper participation, and outdoor incidents.
- Assist with camp setup, cleanup, and transitions between activities.
- Support indoor programming if outdoor activities are canceled due to weather.
- Other duties as assigned by camp leadership.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children in outdoor settings or camps preferred.
- Experience with outdoor skills (e.g., hiking, nature exploration, obstacle courses) is a plus.
- Ability to develop and lead engaging outdoor curriculum and activities.
- First Aid and CPR certification (preferred).
- Ability to follow safety protocols and emergency procedures with accuracy and speed.
- Background check clearance required.
